The use of water methanol injection systems isn’t new. It’s a rather old, tried and proven technique which dates all the way back to WWII, where it was used to increase take off power of heavily loaded supercharged fighter aircraft. Additionally, OEM manufactures such as Chrysler and GM, used water injection on various large displacement engines for it’s enhanced detonation control and the ability to use lower grade fuels. Thus acting as an effective octane enhancer reducing the need of expensive higher octane fuels..
Furthermore, Saab and Porsche used it on turbocharged vehicles due to it’s dramatic coolingmist effect it has on intake air charge temperatures. Thereby, again reducing the onset of detonation. Again, acting as an octane enhancer and allowing the use of lower grade fuels, such as pump gas, with non-intercooled turbocharged applications. Additionally, it was found later that this water injection coolingmist, also know as a water aqua mist, provided substantial internal cylinder cooling as well as reduced EGT’s. Thereby, lowering cylinder temperatures, cooling and protecting the tops of the pistons. While reducing EGT’s which reduced turbocharger wear and fatigue.
